| Every rescued dog has a unique and special story to tell. This is the story of Ruby, a sweet and gentle hound. Through no fault of her own, Ruby ended up in a Virginia shelter – pregnant, thin, and covered with ticks. She was very close to giving birth and the shelter was anxious to move her into a home as they had no room for her or her babies. Ruby was out of options. Luckily for Ruby her plight was soon learned by several local Virginia rescue groups who became involved in the search for a home for Ruby. They sent emails throughout the country desperately asking for help. Hounds Tooth received this email and forwarded it to a wonderful woman who fosters dogs for Furry Friends Network. She often fosters hounds and has experience fostering pregnant dogs. When the woman from Furry Friends Network saw her picture and read her story she knew she had to help Ruby.

We soon learned that the shelter would not release Ruby to anyone from out of state and that her fate was not good. After hours of discussion, Furry Friends Network was able to bring Ruby to Pennsylvania.
It was through the help of many caring rescuers, Ruby was finally transported into a home where she was safe. Two days later Ruby gave birth to eight beautiful puppies. Ruby herself is in better health now and is taking good care of her babies. The puppies are roly-poly little boys and girls, happy and healthy and doing a lot of cuddling with their mama.
